Berber Heerema (1994) is a cellist from The Hague with a deep passion for music that’s
been part of her life since she was young. Growing up in a musical family, she started
making music early on.
Alongside her love for classical music, Berber has always been drawn to other genres like
pop and jazz. She’s played with a wide range of bands and artists, and she loves sharing
this versatility with her students. Berber encourages her students to find their own way in
music, discover their personal style, and embrace their creativity. She believes everyone has
their own unique path on the instrument, and it’s important to honor that!
After finishing her bachelor’s degree at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Berber
continued her studies at the Musikakademie in Basel, Switzerland.
She’s worked with several (contemporary) ensembles like ASKO-Schönberg, played in
orchestras such as Kamerata Zuid and the Zeeland Orchestra, and recorded a few albums,
including two with her band Eskina. Berber was also part of the prestigious NITE ensemble,
performing interdisciplinary shows where she got to combine her love for various music
styles with singing, cello playing, dancing, and acting, all in one performance!
Aside from being a performer, Berber has always loved teaching. She’s taught groups at The
Residents and Symphonic Seniors and also ran her own private teaching practice. She also
organized an annual cello workshop in France.
In 2023, Berber moved to Los Angeles, where she quickly started working with the LA
Opera, Jacaranda Music, AyşeDeniz Gökçin, Bebe Rexha, Strawberry Guy, and many more.
In LA, she also discovered a passion for creating and producing interdisciplinary theater. She
launched a multidisciplinary concert series at Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga called
Under The Oaks.
Now that she’s back in the Netherlands, Berber is excited to be teaching again. Sharing her
love for music will always stay one of her greatest passions.
Berber teaches students of all ages and levels, in both Dutch and English.
If you love singing, moving, or even dancing while playing, she can guide you through that
too!
