Victor Borkent

Trumpet

Victor Borkent graduated from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in 1985 as a performing musician in trumpet and jazz pedagogy.

Victor has played and plays with The Glenn Miller Revival Orchestra, La Pat, Hang On To Your Hat, The Strangers, Zampano, Salsa de Amsterdam, Orchestra Sonora and Latin Blue, soloist with choir The Dutch Voices, New Londen Choral by Tom Parker, Bill Baker’s Big Band, TOM , mariachi orchestra Los Gravilanes, the ‘Ebony Ensemble’, Orchesta Glenn Weisz, Marabunta and Salsa Orchestra Paysa. He was also a trumpet player and soloist with the Highlight Jazz Orchestra.

Victor played with Greetje Kauffeld, Rachel Gould, Bart van Lier, Ton Roos, Benny Baily, Ferdinand Povel, Ruud Breuls, Ed Neumeister, Jean Toots Tielemans, Oscar Harris, Max Nijman, Mighty Sparrow, Eddie Floyd and many others.

Recording soundtracks for documentaries and commercials, such as films by Theo van Gogh (Back to Oegstgeest, Loos and Vals licht, among others), is also part of his work.
With his own jazz ensemble “Vic’s!”, he is active with different ensembles, mostly with his own compositions and arrangements.
Between 1986 and 2013, Victor was a trumpet teacher and ensemble leader at the Koorenhuis in The Hague.

He taught at the music school in Utrecht and was a band coach at TU in Delft.
Victor has been working at the music association “St. Caecilia” in Voorburg, where he gives trumpet lessons and conducts the children’s orchestra “Small Time Big Band” and the big band “Straight Life”.
Since 2013, Victor is affiliated with the Jazzschool The Hague, and the Music Academy The Hague.

The youth band of the VHJO (Association Hofstad Youth Orchestra) has been under his leadership since 2010.
